I'm sure by now you've heard about that asshole who put up a "Homophobic and Proud of it" stamp- if not, go on and read about it here.

[link]

Now then, I was a bit annoyed like most anybody else. The fact that this hasn't been taken down yet is, quite frankly, bullshit. You won't see me swear a lot on this journal, but this is the definition of bullshit. Why hasn't this been taken down yet? Because apparently this sort of hate isn't necessarily bad enough to warrant the mighty DA Banhammer. Ugh.

And the creator of course stands by the fact that it's not hate, because the definition of homophobia doesn't involve hate. Great. Instead, it involves an intense, irrational fear of a group of people. You wanna tell me that's not just as bad? Bullshit.

Now, then, here's the thing you all should be paying attention to. This guy is a masterclass troll. You wanna know why he posted this stamp? BECAUSE HE WAS BORED AND WANTED TO PISS PEOPLE OFF. Don't believe me? Here's a copy of the first selection of comments on the stamp page itself:

"*Danium Feb 23, 2010
Cant wait for the dArama

--
=prosaix Feb 23, 2010
Neither can I!! I don't really know how to start it except by posting the stamp in clubs where there are members from the grievances group... Hope it won't take long, I'm so bored right now...

--
*Danium Feb 23, 2010
Dude you only make this stampts to cause dArama to get populair

--

=prosaix Feb 23, 2010
Not to be popular, only some dArama, some comments etc when I'm totally bored like this.

My aim was to get at least 10 000 pvs, so now I have it I don't really care aboutthose anymore.

--"

...See, there's all kinds of screwed up logic here. From what it looks like, the dude doesn't even really care if he gets banned, he's just doing it for the pageviews. Pageviews can be a nice thing for an artist- it means that more people are wanting to see their work. This clown, however, is just wanting views so that people can see how much of an ass he is. They read about it in a journal like I did, and they all come to gawk and stare and leave rude comments, which is exactly what this troll wants. In the end, the pageviews mean nothing except for their value to your own ego, and that's exactly why this jerk decided to post the stamp. I'm not even sure where I'm going with this, I feel like I'm venting a bit.

Puppies are cute. What's your favorite kind of puppy?

This is probably a troll. I like how the response to the troll is to give them exactly what they want.

But Deviantarts are also dumb - Well. Not dumb. Just heartless business people.

When a big-name store opens in a new area, one of the first things they do is calculations on the local products. If the community buys enough local products, they'll stock them. If the local product does not provide a significant profit, they do not stock it.

DA realizes that women/lesbian almost-porn is a hell of a lot more popular than man/gayballs almost-porn. I'm not saying any upstanding ladies or gentlemen do not enjoy gayballs almost-porn, I'm just saying that if you hauled up the searches, you'd get a lot more 'tits boob pussy' than 'boner dick penis'.

This is just opinion, though. Speculation, even. But I bet if the print sales of dudes making out skyrocketed, then so would the leniency shown towards naked dudes.

dA is pretty infamous for uneven enforcement of things.

What other sorts of things have they done in the past? Just curious.

A lot of the uneven enforcement lies in refusing to delete things that are obviously child (or adolescent) pornography; they also have a history of undoing permabans on popular users, simply because they are popular. Very popular users also seem to have greater leeway with what they can and cannot draw.

See, now, if I were to put up a stamp that said, "hinduphobic and proud," I'd get my ass banned outta here so fast I'd feel it last Wednesday. Yet, homophobia is tolerated by the staff. Beautiful world, mang.

That's not true. Internet Nazis are quite common on dA, when pretty much every stamp they make on the subject strongly implies (if not outright states) a genocidal hatred for... well... a lot of people, really.

I tried sending another complaint, but there have already been 9 closed cases on the stamp. This is idiotic.

I would be more okay with the stamp if his justification for it hadn't been a Bible verse. Personally - I don't know about you - I'm not a Christian, though I grew up learning about it (what with my parents trying to put me in the faith).

Anyway, using the Bible as justification isn't an opinion: it's reading someone else's thoughts verbatim. I just... ugh. People need to realize that having a religion is not the same as OR a substitute for forming your own set of ideas and beliefs....

Homophobia might be a real issue, like xenophobia, but I think the majority of people claiming to have it truly just think that being gay is morally wrong.

Also, Newfoundland puppies are the jam. Just look at that face.

The thing is, though, I have a hard time believing he's even saying it because he believes in the Bible. Like those comments I posted, it appears more like he's just trying to troll DA- he's got other stamps with similarly offensive/jerkface messages. I'm an atheist, but I used to be Jewish. I have no ill will towards my religion, or the purpose of religion in general- it can be a great tool to comfort those who are in need of it, and can be a useful way to help encourage people to get along. Unfortunately, when someone uses religious text like this to fight against a prejudiced group, it bothers me. Whether or not he has an intense, irrational fear of homosexuals, he certainly has some degree of prejudice.

Also, DAWWWW I could hug that face and make baby noises at it all day.
