Punked Comic Set Design

Description

Set design concept for a short comic I'll be submitting to a punk-themed comic anthology this fall. I'm not super used to doing sets for comics, which I suppose is all the more reason to start practicing them, especially on a small scale like this project. The rendering here is more or less how I want the comic to look, lots of texture and mark-making. It'll take me a bit, but I'm determined to make it happen, and without my wrist collapsing.

My first impression about this piece is that the level of detail is wonderful! I love how you managed to include such little things as the funky carpet on top of hardwood flooring and how the fan and laptop are on the bed instead of by the desk. There's so much personality in this room because of all the details you've thrown in. That poster is hilarious, as well. The one thing I'm not so sure about is what I'm supposed to feel about this person's room. I can tell some basic facts about this person: they live in a hot environment, probably lower- or lower-middle class, eclectic tastes (they love funky designs, but don't stick to any consistent theme, which is cool for what I think you're going for), and probably spend a lot of time on the computer. They seem relatively tidy, but not so much that their desk is completely clean. There's nothing that connects with me on a purely emotional level, however, but that could just be because I haven't experienced this kind of lifestyle personally. I'm also curious what that thing is in the corner that looks like a rolled up rug. I can definitely see a lot of personality in this room, and there's so much potential for a character to feel right at home in your story. Keep up the detail work, too! I'm sure it's a grueling task to draw all those tiny lines and curves, but it brings out the character in the room so much! I look forward to more!
