Darkening Skies Title Card

Last week my 11 players and I finished a massive RPG campaign, set in the universe of Lady Blackbird. Floating islands, sky pirates, impending doom and the end of the world- all the sorts of things you need for a good adventure.


I tried to incorporate as many important elements of the story as I reasonably could within a small space. If you wanna hear about our dorky-awesome campaign, keep on reading.

The border is one of the mythical ‘giants’ the players learned about during their adventures; one of their mechanical skulls was the source of the deadly sentient infection called The Strange (that black stuff on the giant’s arms). On either side of the giant’s head are the banners for the two pirate crews playing in the campaign, the Blackbirds and the Whitethorns. During their adventures in finding a cure to the Strange, they gained a new ship called The Aviary to join the cozy little Owl. Both ships are silhouetted against the dying star that their world of floating islands revolves around, also shown in the bottom section.

The tentacles are for the skysquid, one of the many creatures in the world of Lady Blackbird that dip between the ‘surface’ and Deep Sky, a nigh-impenetrable field of black clouds that dissolves nearly everything else. No humans had ever explored there, until the player crews found a prototype ship to dive below and discover the true origins of their world. What did they find, exactly? Well... that'd be a spoiler, wouldn't it. c;
